In case you missed it. Here is the video from this week's boot.
Also here are the materials we used for our small group time.
1.
Everyone in the group should take secret mission
card that reflects their current stage of discipleship and spend 10 minutes
working through it on their own. You may not have all the exact answers and
that is ok because some of these things rely on other people. But still put down
your best guesses. And if you have to change them later, that is fine. The more
specific you can get with these things, the more likely you are to accomplish
them.
If you do not complete filling out your
card tonight, that is ok. Just try and finish it by the end of next week so you
have time to accomplish your goals. If you finish early please sit quietly and
wait for everyone else to finish.

Secret Mission Cards
Observer
Your mission should you choose to accept it
is to find ways to spend time with people who believe in Jesus and to initiate
a conversation or two about Jesus. We’ll start you off.
Pick one of your friends who believes in
Jesus and is about your age?
Make a plan to have a conversation with
them about believing in Jesus.
Where
will you meet? (It needs to be a place where you can sit and talk for a little
bit like at your house, at a coffee shop, etc.)
I
will try and set a time and date with this person before ___________________
Come
up with three questions you would like to ask them about what it is like to
believe in Jesus or why they believe what they do. The point is not to debate
or put them on he spot, but to listen to them.
1.
2.
3.
List three things that you have observed
about this person that you think are cool.Share these with them during your
conversation.
1.
2.
3.
Now write out, in three sentences or less,
how you will ask them to meet. What will you say?
Seeker
Your mission should you choose to accept it
is to identify some questions you have, to investigate the answers and to pray
them.
So what are your top three questions that
have thus far prevented you from belief?
1.
2.
3.
List three
reliable sources that you think you might be able to use to find answers to
these questions. If you use people, write their names. We want to be specific
here.
1.
2.
3.
Now
determine how much time you will spend seeking out these answers.
I will
spend _______________ per day or week (circle one) researching these questions.
Alright,
now to pray the questions. This is what I want you to do. Say, “God, I have
some questions.” Read your questions above, then say “Amen.” Then pause in
silence for about a minute. Don’t move.
Don’t speak. Do that everyday between now and the next boot.
Believer
Your mission should you choose to accept it is to practice a
spiritual discipline. This basically means you will create and maintain a special
habit over the next couple of months.
So first, you have to pick what you will do and this can be
anything as long as it is kind of unusual for you, that you do it alone, that
you do it regularly and it is focused on connecting with God. So reading the Bible, Praying, Journaling,
drawing, playing worship music, silence, taking a walk outside, etc… So what is
it going to be?
How much time will you devote to this activity? __________per
day or week (circle one)
When will it happen?
Now, you want to make sure to remind yourself to do it. You
can do that by setting an alarm on your phone, by associating it with something
you do everyday, or something that happens everyday. What is your reminder?
Now who is going to make sure you keep it up? Write their
name down.
Tell that person what you are doing and have them check up
on you regularly.
Worker
Your mission should you choose to accept it is to meet the
needs of three people you know.
Think of three people you know personally that need
something. (Don’t limit it to people who need what you know that you can
provide). What do they need?
1.
Needs
2.
Needs
3.
Needs
Are any of these needs things that you can meet fairly
easily? Make a plan to do so within the next month.
When will
you supply them with what they need, How often, How will you get there, etc.
Are any of them things that it would be harder to
provide? That you might need help with?
Who could
you ask to help you?
How can you
gather the resources to help this person?
How long do
you think it would take to make it happen?
When are
you going to start?
Are there any needs that are impossible to address?
What are
some other ways you will help that person?
Discipler
Your mission should you choose to accept it is to meet with
a friend who is an observer or seeker four times over the next two months. The
goal is not to convince them of your view or reach the “right” answer but just to
discuss possible answers to one difficult question every session.
These are the questions:
What is Christianity?
Do all religions lead to God?
Is there any real right and wrong?
Why do we exist or what is our purpose?
Let your friend know the questions ahead of time. Each of
you should wrestle with the questions, beforehand. Look at what the Bible says.
Talk with your friend about them. Challenge them. Let them challenge you.
Wrestle with their answers or their guesses. Don’t be afraid of truth. Again
the goal here is listening and wrestling.
Who will you meet with?
Where will you meet?
When will you meet?
1.
2.
3.
4.
___
2.
Say, “Does anyone want to share anything that
they just wrote down? Or a concern you might have with your secret mission?”
Take prayer requests and pray.
3.
Let’s spend the rest of our time together
playing a game.
Pass out 3 blank cards to each person. Say,
“We are going to play a game called cards. On the cards I handed you you will
create a card to be played in this game. It needs a title and an action. Be
creative with the title. The action could be anything. The could award points,
take points away or affect gameplay. They can specify how they can be played or
they can leave that up to interpretation.”
Collect the cards that have been made and
shuffle them in with 3 additional blank cards per player. Everyone will get 4
cards and gameplay will begin with the player to your left. They will draw a
card and then play a card.
If you have a blank card in your hand you
can create a new card but try not to holdup the game with it.
Gameplay will follow whatever cards are
played until you run out of cards, time or someone is declared a winner. If
there is still time, each person can pick 1 card that was their favorite to
keep for the next time you play cards.
