8.11.19- The Promise of God's Provision

Use the following thoughts and questions to have a spiritual conversation as a family. Don’t emphasize having the right answer, but focus on spending time discussing the Word as a family.

Scripture

Numbers 21:4-9; John 3:14-15

Session Summary

In the last session we looked at God’s people failing to trust in His faithfulness to bring them into the land of Canaan. Because of this lapse in trust, the Israelites were forced to wander in the wilderness with an entire generation dying off. In this session, we will see that the people who had rejected God’s provision of a land flowing with milk and honey, grumbled and complained when they had no food to eat or water to drink in the wilderness. We will see that God is gracious and merciful, but that He also takes rebellion against Him seriously. We will also see that just as God made a way for the Israelites to be saved through the judgment He poured out on them, He has made a way for us to be saved from the ultimate consequence of our rebellion, separation from Him forever.

Conversation Questions

• What does your response/attitude towards your sin say that you believe about Jesus?
• How can we model grace and forgiveness with each other in light of what Jesus has given us?
• What does our proclamation of the gospel show what we believe about sin and salvation?
• How does the completed work of Jesus motivate you as you seek to live for Him?

Family Challenge

Use the passages today to talk about the fact that we, like Moses, can intercede through prayer on behalf of our family members and friends. Talk about what intercessory prayer looks like, and how you can begin the practice in your own prayer life this week.
